Prevention is better than Cure

Stress is a basic physiological response to any perceived threat or danger.

It is an instinctive pattern we have in order to make us aware of a seemingly dangerous situation. First, adrenaline is released to alert the body; our arms and legs are provided with an extra portion of blood as it is diverted from the unimportant body parts like stomach and face. The circulation of the blood rises due to an increased heart rate and accelerated breathing and fat as well as sugar are released to be translated into energy. All of that happens within 15 – 20 seconds to be ready for a fight or flight response allowing the body to either fight the danger or run away from it. For those few minutes when we need to focus on survival any non-vital functions are shut down: immune system, digestive system,  sexual functions, etc.

Nowadays, as most of the perceived dangers are not life-threatening anymore all those preparations to fight or flight remain in the body without being used. Consistently high adrenaline levels because of chronic stress will eventually result in a collapse of the body into illness and feeling exhausted. With chronic stress, the stress response is an inappropriate over-reaction and because we can’t and don’t need to actually run away or fight, the stress chemicals don’t get used, and prevent the production of endorphins, the ‘feel good chemicals’ which restore us to a state of well-being.

Hypnotherapy is a very good tool to relax mind and body and to teach you to induce a relaxation response on your own. Therefore, you will learn how to relax first. During hypnosis we create a new pattern of immediately switching on the relaxation response as soon as you face a stressful situation or for preventive purposes.  The more you are able to put yourself in a relaxed state automatically, your immune system can actually do the work it is intended to do and release the ‘feel-good chemicals’ into the body. That allows true healing to take place. Clients report feeling more calm, more in control of their feelings, more centred within themselves, being more kind to themselves and others. Additionally, the perception of pain might change, eczemas may diminish, you are more resistant to stress and illness and your skin will glow and shine due to the higher blood circulation in a relaxed state.
